Our Learning
Coin d'études sociales
We have been exploring the Prairie provinces in Canada and discovering the elements of these provinces that make them unique and special. As we discover the geography, the flags and explore the culture of these communities through story, we have also created our own prairie art.
Students have also shared their excitement to share their first oral presentations for the school year. When both students, on a chosen day, have expressed their desire to be the first presenter, students have creatively suggested playing "rock, paper, scissors" to identify the first presenter. Each student has remembered to take a deep breath and project their voice, so that all can enjoy their presentation &, at the end of each presentation, audience members have eagerly raised their hand to share their compliment for the speaker. The grade two students have also done an awesome job of adding their own content to the presentation.
Congratulations to all! Please look for a SchoolMessenger message on Monday, November 2nd with the new schedule for the November oral presentations.
Coin de mathématiques
As we continue to explore number sense in class, we are deepening our understanding of numbers as we identify "greater than", "lesser than" and "equal to" as we work with numbers on our beaded number line, on our 100s or 50s chart, on our place value chart and as we play our games.
Our newest number game is Tic-Tac-Toe. All that is required is a 100s or 50s chart, a die and something small to use as a place marker on the chart. I will be posting it in the Google Classroom this week, but until then, ask your child to share the game with you.
We have also started our Number Talks in class, which help us to deepen our number sense as well. Number Talks give us the opportunity to practice our math vocabulary, apply our concepts and explore new approaches to problem solving, as a class, before we practice on our own or with a partner.
Coin de français
I hope that everyone is enjoying our online home reading with our Je lis, Je lis website! If your family has not had the opportunity to log in quite yet, please check out this wonderful collection of online French books soon. Please note that new books are being added to the open collections on Monday, November 2nd.
We are continuing our letter & sound study in class as part of our morning routine that includes word work and our printing. Our letters & sounds are very useful as we begin to put together some simple syllables (ie. consonant/vowel) and use those simple syllables to assist us in our reading - with our "Message du jour", our sight words or with our literacy time in class.
We are having a great time putting together the clues in each of our "Mystery Bags" to identify the owner. Students have been quite strategic with the clues that they have included in their own mystery bag and we are enjoying the chance to guess which of our classmates belongs to the collection of items.
We look forward to sharing our learning with you again, soon.
