Our Learning
We have such busy days with our learning, it is sometimes hard to decide where to start when we want to share with our families. :)
Please see a summary of much of our current learning below. We are also expanding our focus on wellness in our class - for ourselves & for others, as well. Please stay tuned as we get started with our learning in this area.
Coin de français
We have read "The Very Ugly Bug" by Liz Pichon {translated by Mme Janet :) } as we continued our learning about the adaptations of insects. After sharing the story, we created some amazing & creative "very ugly bugs" of our own! We are finishing up a more polished copy of our ugly insect writing as we each introduce our own very ugly bug.
Our daily letter & sound study continues with our morning literacy routines. Our letter and sound stories are woven into our daily message as well as our word work/sentence creation/printing practice. Our "français intensif" routine remains focused on the opportunity to practice the targeted vocabulary for our monthly oral presentations.
We are continuing to rotate our literacy centre bags each week (to facilitate sanitization) with:
- word puzzles with thematic, targeted vocabulary,
- word work with high frequency vocabulary connected to our current learning,
- mixed-up sentences that require our help to get back into order,
- letter & sound reading tasks as we connect our consonants & vowels to create simple syllables,
- repetitive texts that target high frequency vocabulary,
- as well as levelled classroom books to read to self
Coin des mathématiques
We are continuing to develop our understanding of all the different manners in which we can represent numbers. We have added a place value chart to the "math tool kit" we each keep in our desk and we are using it alongside our base 10 blocks & our beaded number lines to represent the numbers identified when we roll the die.
To further assist us as we learn about place value, we will be adding a set of "place value cards" to our tool kits this coming week.
There is always a new game to help us with our math learning :) and this past week, it was the "sandwich" game. It will be posted in the Google Classroom, if your family would like to try out our game at home.
We have also been continuing to find number collections in nature that we can photograph and add to our number line in the classroom.
Coin des sciences
We are currently completing our research about insects and working hard to finish up our posters with our learning. We are also completing the painting of our "bug rocks" this week. When complete, we will be combining our research with our bug rocks in an awesome manner, so that we can share with the Tuscany community.
There will be a separate post about our bug rocks coming very soon!
