Our Learning
Coin du français
In January, we added a new tool to our literacy "tool box" for French. We are constantly using visuals as we explore & add new vocabulary to our classroom. In recent weeks, we have added a new component to our vocabulary visuals by implementing a tool called the Frayer Method. The Frayer Method is a visual model that makes new vocabulary more easily accessible for students. In creating the graphic organizer, our class collectively collaborates to define our target vocabulary word - this includes examples as well as non-examples. When complete, the students are using both a definition and non-examples that we have all contributed to and agree upon. For each Frayer model, students are welcome to use the class illustration or to identify their own illustration to help define the word, as they personalize their learning.
We are completing all of our vocabulary graphic organizers in our visual journals, so that they are easily accessible as a tool to refer back to when needed.
Some of our recent vocabulary is seen below as we make connections with new and abstract concept words that span our math, science and social studies curriculums (e.g. the past, a prediction, an observation).
